Welcome to the Indian Union, Oxford
The Indian Union, Oxford is a voluntary community organisation that has been in existence since 1965. It started as a small group of Indians who were keen to maintain Indian culture and tradition to a large organisation that is now supported by over 500 members and people of the host community within Oxfordshire. The Union is committed to working for the benefit of all
groups within its membership without making distinction to gender, age or political and religious affiliation.
The main objectives are to:
act as the umbrella organisation and spokesperson for all community organisations that have membership drawn principally from the Indian sub-continent
promote cultural cohesion, social interaction and understanding within diverse communities from the Indian diaspora
establish a framework to consolidate links with the local authority, national and local funding bodies, local voluntary community organisations with similar aims and other faith groups
participate in activities that are designed to reflect the multi-cultural nature of our society
ensure that significant milestones in Indian political history, such as Indian Independence Day and Indian Republic Day are marked with a public event
work with its members to celebrate particular festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Christmas, Dussehra and Raksha Bandhan
hold regular meetings, maintain proper financial records and ensure full communication with its membership
